Seiko Instruments to launch two new watch collections worldwide this fall (Asics and Onitsuka Tiger) as part of licensing agreement with ASICS |
 |
Seiko Instruments, Inc. (SII; Headquarters: Chiba, Japan; President Masafumi SHIMBO) has reached agreement with ASICS Corporation (Headquarters: Kobe, Japan; President Motoi OYAMA), a leading international sporting goods company, on a licensing partnership that will result in the development of watches under two new brands: ASICS and Onitsuka Tiger.
SII and ASICS will plan the two new watch collections jointly, with SII developing and manufacturing the watches. The watches emerging from this collaboration will be available at stores this fall in Japan and in other major markets worldwide, through distribution channels for ASICS athletic goods and SII watches.
One of the two collections will consist of sports watches that trace their lineage to the cutting-edge, high-quality ASICS shoes held in such high regard by top athletes around the world. The other collection will consist of a line of fashion watches reflecting the spirit of the retro yet sporty Onitsuka Tiger designs, which enjoy wide popularity among young people worldwide, including Japan.
The first of the collections will be unveiled at Baselworld 2011, the world's largest watch and jewelry show, to be held in Basel, Switzerland, from March 24 to 31, 2011 (SII booth: Hall 5.0 / Stand C31).
We plan to take the opportunity created by this licensing agreement to provide functional and fashionable watches to the world's sports-loving people, drawing fully on ASICS's competitive presentation skills and global marketing clout as well as SII's planning capabilities, manufacturing capacity, and high-quality after-sales service, all cultivated from its time-proven watch manufacturing business.
